The Double Club, by Carsten Höller
I went here on Wednesday evening with some friends. Sat next to Zaha Hadid at dinner in this this installation which is made up of three interwoven spaces. One is a restaurant. Another a bar. The third a disco. The three spaces are then subdivided into Congolese and western halves. The restaurant offers plastic chairs and goat stew in one of its sectors, with designer tables and wild rabbit terrine in the other. The disco plays Congolese music during one of its hours and western dance for the next. The best bit, the bar, offers plush cocktails in its darkest corner and a range of oversized Congolese superbeers in its brightest one. The show is sponsored by Fondazione Prada, the elegant art institution set up by Miuccia Prada to broadcast her love of contemporary art and will be in London for 6 months to focus on the plight of the Congo.
